Säumen : ourler, border, hésiter
Thomas Müller donne un titre à ses expositions.
Le titre qu’il a choisi pour sa troisième exposition à la Galerie Vidal-Saint Phalle est significatif de son travail récent.
Ourler : il y a quelque chose qui évoque la broderie, la finesse, le charme et l’élégance du point dans le travail de Thomas Müller.
Il y a aussi, à travers une grande variété de thèmes graphiques, un univers qui se développe comme tout autant de motifs brodés.
Border : les lignes sont essentielles dans les œuvres sur papier de Thomas Müller elles les construisent et les finissent comme le feraient de grands arbres bordant une allée ou un paysage.
Hésiter : Thomas Müller est chaque matin à son atelier et, peut-être parce que c’est l’atelier d’un artiste qui ne travaille que le papier et où est absente l’ambiance de « haut fourneau » des ateliers de peintures, le visiteur y est sensible à l’atmosphère calme de méditation qui y règne.
Thomas Müller conçoit lui-même ses accrochages.
Dans cette exposition, il a inclus, en plus de ses deux formats précédents habituels (le petit 29,7 x 21 cm et le grand 160 x 115 cm), un autre format (207 x 148 cm).
L’ajout de cette nouvelle grande dimension est important.
De même, la présence, cette fois dans les petits formats, de collages et d’impressions contribue à enrichir un langage dans la combinaison de techniques diverses est subtiles.

Säumen : to line, border, hesitate
Thomas Müller gives titles to his exhibitions.
The title his has chosen for his third exhibition at the Vidal-Saint Phalle Gallery is relevant to his recent work.
To Line : there is an element of needlepoint, the refines, charm and elegance of the stitch in Thomas Müller’s work.
There is also, throughout a multitude of graphic references, an environment that is duplicated in the same way as embroidery.
Border : lines are essential in Thomas Müller’s work , they shape and end the paper in the same way as a hedge of high trees that border a path or landscape.
Hesitate : Thomas Müller is in his studio every day and maybe, due to the fact that he works on paper a cleanliness that oil painting lacks, makes the visitor sensitive to a calm and meditative atmosphere.
But as the work on paper does not accept error or alterations, we can understand Thomas Müller’s hesitations.
Thomas Müller conceives his own hangings.
In this exhibition he has included, amongst his usual formats ( the small one 29,7 x 21 cm and the bigger 160 x 115 cm), another one ( 207 x 148 cm).
The addition of this new dimension is important.
In the same way, the presence of collage and prints in the smaller formats contributes to enrich the language in which the combination of different techniques is extremely subtle.
